Stuart is a specialist intellectual property and corporate lawyer with circa 20 years’ legal experience of advising clients and businesses within the United Kingdom’s science, technology and innovation sectors and knowledge based economy.

The exploitation of intellectual property, together with a legacy of advising on corporate deals and commercial matters which have a focus on science & technology, are key areas of practice.

Stuart leads the group-wide legal function with overall responsibility for legal compliance and IP management across the business.

His legal experience, coupled with a definitive understanding of the United Kingdom’s science-to-innovation ecosystem, provides M Squared with robust business processes for legal compliance and operations, always ensuring the legal function is focussed, commercial and agile.

Stuart qualified as a solicitor in 1999 with the Edinburgh commercial practice Brodies. After qualification, he moved to Oxford where he worked in private practice. He also previously spent a number of years as in-house counsel with a University of Oxford technology spin out and was also Group Legal Adviser with Oxford University Press, the world’s largest University Press.

Stuart has advised M Squared for many years whilst in private practice and this embedded knowledge resulted in him joining as General Counsel in 2016.

He is dual qualified as a solicitor in both England & Wales and Scotland.
