Dr John Nicholls is General Manager of our Semiconductor, Displays and Metrology business segment. An experienced scientist and commercial technologist, he gained a PhD in physics in 1994 at Strathclyde University before broadening his expertise at the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers in Florida. In 1996 he was a founding member at Crystal Photonics Inc.

John returned to Scotland to found Photonic Materials Limited in 1998. PML developed and commercialised products for applications in PET medical imaging, nuclear oil-well logging and fiber optics. After exiting PML, John was an interim director with Scoopt and then became the founding CEO at pharma services business TMRI from June 2006.

At M Squared John is developing our business in Semiconductor, Displays and Metrology applications.

John joined M Squared Lasers in June 2012 and has held several commercial roles across the group as it has grown. John’s current focus is developing M Squared’s precision laser sources in demanding industrial applications across Semiconductor, Displays and Metrology where the combination of precision and high reliability offer significant benefits over other technologies.

John is a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

John is also an executive Board Director of M Squared Lasers Ltd.
